Using Scrivener's Project Targets
A handy tool for accountability to get to "The End" on your novel or memoir
Break a huge novel or other writing project down into parts is something I learned to do back in my tech-writing/tech-training days when I wrote lengthy end user and process documentation as well as online help systems for a variety of computer software and hardware [True Confession: Writing novels is more fun!].
And of course, I also like gamifying tasks because the dopamine hit of “winning” only happens every so often if you only win when you type “The End.” If you win each time you complete a writing session, write 500 words, etc., you’ll get that rush more often.
That’s why I love Scrivener’s Project Targets to help me manage the pace of my writing and give that daily sense of accomplishment as I watch my progress bar turn green each time I sit down to my computer.
If you’d like to join the fun, take a look at this video I made with step-by-step instructions for how to use Project Targets. It will be especially helpful for those of you participating in my “12 Weeks to Your Next Draft” course.
